MIAMI, Aug. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- HolaDoctor announced that it will be a featured speaker at the annual Medicaid Enterprise Systems Conference (MESC), which takes place August 18 – 21, 2014, in Denver, Colo. The MESC brings together thought leaders from the public and private sectors to share ideas and information related to Medicaid systems and initiatives.
HolaDoctor's executive vice president and chief health officer, Dr. Dirk Schroeder, will speak. His topic, to be presented on August 18 at 8 a.m., is "Tecnologia de la Salud: Using Technology to Engage With Hispanics."
Currently, millions of Hispanics receive Medicaid benefits, representing 30 percent of the total U.S. Medicaid population. Medicaid enrollment is growing rapidly. Effectively engaging with Hispanics, while managing costs, requires more than simply translating English content to Spanish. It requires the creation and delivery of culturally tailored content using technological tools most familiar to this population. Many Hispanics have limited English proficiency – but are active users of technology, especially mobile.
The HolaDoctor session will help Dr. Schroeder's audience better understand how low-income Hispanics use technology and the best practices for using it to engage and improve outcomes for Hispanic Medicaid members. Additionally, Dr. Schroeder will highlight a compelling business case and the return on investment when using technology to communicate with Hispanic Medicaid recipients.
Dr. Schroeder currently directs HolaDoctor's research and consulting services and oversees the development of the organization's health programs. He's an expert in global health and a former tenured associate professor at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. Dr. Schroeder retains a faculty appointment at Emory in the Department of Global Health, where he continues to teach.
Prior to Emory, Dr. Schroeder was a post-doctoral fellow at Cornell University from 1992 to 1993. Between 1989 and 1991, he lived in Guatemala and worked for the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama. Dr. Schroeder has received numerous honors and awards, including a Future Leader Award (International Life Sciences Institute of North America in 1998), Professor of the Year (Emory School of Public Health in 1997) and a Fulbright Fellowship (Indonesia in 1985-1986).
