With Election Day two months away, Nebraskans are being encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Since the May Primary, more than 2,000 new voters have signed up.

Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale said right now, there are about 1.2 million people registered in the state. Gale said in a non–presidential election, the voter turnout is about 55 percent. With a lot of big seats up for grabs, he's hoping to get at least 60 percent this time around.

"This is an election year we're dealing with the governor, we're dealing with U.S. senator, we're dealing with three congressional offices and all of the constitution offices of the state," Gale said. "Many, many very significant people in our representative government system are going to be elected in November, and we need as broad a base of voter participation as possible."

To register, you can print out a form from the Secretary of State's website here. You can also stop by your county election office or the DMV. Forms must be post marked by October 17. The deadline to register in–person is October 24.
