There were a lot of hugs and tears at Pentzer Park Wednesday night as friends and family honored the life of Maurice Williams.

Many were decked in camouflage, Williams's favorite pattern.

Those close to him shared stories and memories as they lit candles in his remembrance.

One said, “He had a big heart and loved to smile.”

The 21-year-old was fatally shot in the chest, at the Lionsgate Apartments over the weekend, after a group of men stormed in, police say it appears it was a home invasion robbery, gone bad.

Williams's uncle, Anthony Gray, didn't want to believe the news, “It was one of those things like, no, it couldn't happen, no, it's not him," says Gray.

Williams friend, Brian Adams adds, "It's been hard for me the last three days, I've been trying to deal the best way I can."

No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.

Williams will be buried in St. Louis where he grew up.
