For some Nebraska military families they got the opportunity of a lifetime. Today they were honored with a special flight and greeted by hundreds at the Lincoln Airport. Gold Star Kids is a group that hopes to inspire others and remember the children of fallen warriors.

"When we started doing this we looked at it as an opportunity for Nebraska to let these Gold Star families know that we remember them," says Evonne Williams.

For Jessica Blake-Arlt who lost her husband in 2005 the reception was a little overwhelming.

"It's just our reality. It's our everyday so it's what we live with and its what we know. I think sometimes it's hard to see so many people looking at us," says Jessica Blake-Arlt.

After posing for pictures the group headed off to a memorial ceremony where each child placed a rose next to an image of their father,

Jessica says it felt good to pay tribute to her husband and it feels wonderful to know people care.

"He loved Nebraska, he loved the university, he loved flying, and he loved us," says Jessica Blake-Arlt.

Evonne Williams and her husband Bill organized the event. She says even though it was sometimes a daunting task she knows this memory will live on for the children forever and that makes it worth it.

The kids are cheering on the Huskers as they take on Michigan State. Before the start of the game they released gold balloons in memory of those who died serving their country.
