The third annual Good Life Halfsy half marathon got off to a fun start out at Seacrest Field Sunday morning. The route snakes around Lincoln, hitting landmarks like Holmes Lake, Sunken Gardens, the Stadium, and more.

"It actually draws people from all over the country," said one of the coordinators, Andi Hallgren. "We were in conversation with someone who was doing 50 races across the US and this was his 49th."

It's a net downhill course, which makes it a good run for setting personal records. I spoke with one veteran runner, Bryan Sypal, who has competed in all three good life halfsies so far. He says it's one of his favorite races.

"It's well tended to," he said. "It's because they look at every detail and perfect it. It really impresses a lot of runners and makes the event good overall."

And what about first-timers? We caught up with two childhood best friends, Emma Fryda and Emma Shattuck, who say Sunday's Good Life Halfsy is their first half marathon.

"The majority of the course is downhill, so if we get really tired we'll just create a fetal position and roll down," Fryda said.

The male winner of the half marathon was Alvaro Sanabria of Kearney, and Obsie Birru of Des Moines came in as the first female winner.

The event was sponsored by local start-up Bulu Box, and put on by Pink Gorilla, the same group that put on the Market to Market relay just last month.
