IT professionals from all over the country were at UNL's Innovation Campus this week. They were attending a leadership conference with a big mission.
The event was called 'Opportunity that Scales- IT Leadership Conference' and focuses on women in IT.
"There is a nice community out there of women, but it's not big enough. And it's not diverse enough in itself. We need more young people as well as people that have been around for awhile having those conversations together," says participant, Kimberly Harper.
Almost 300 people participated in the conference. Participants listened to guest speakers, attended workshops, and conversed with other IT professionals.
The goal of the session was to identify how to recruit and retain women in IT jobs.
"The way we're innovative is to be diverse, and to have voices from women and men at the table. And I think that was a powerful message and on that as we leave here today, we make sure that happens," says Mary Niemiec, Director of Online Education Services at UNL.
This was the second year of the two-day conference.
Event organizers want to make this an annual fall event. Next year they hope to have even more participants.
