Students at Southeast Community College were up early to take part in Veterans Day. For some, it was an opportunity to say thank you to their fellow classmates who have served.
"It was a great turnout, it was. It was nice to see fresh new faces coming out to represent the veterans," says student Chuck Elledge.
The morning began with a flag raising, where more than a hundred students and faculty attended. Then, veterans were invited to a free breakfast.
It was put on by the Student Veterans Organization at SCC.
Members say today's events helped them feel supported by their classmates and fellow veterans.
"The fact that there's such good people here at our college, at southeast community college. I'm really thankful that we had such a good turnout and all the support that we're receiving from students and faculty," says Student Veterans Organization president, Patrick Klevemann.
The Student Veterans Organization puts on several events throughout the year at SCC. Peer support groups are also available each week for student veterans.
