Senior midfielder Caroline Flynn earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, announced on Tuesday.

Flynn, a Lincoln, Neb., native, becomes the 326th Academic All-American in Nebraska Athletics history, a total which leads the nation. She is the fifth Husker soccer player all-time to earn recognition, joining Morgan Marlborough (2010), Shay Powell (2009), Meghan Anderson (2001) and Shannon Tanaka (2001). Flynn holds a 3.99 grade-point average in communication studies.

Flynn captured CoSIDA Academic All-District honors (District 7) for the third consecutive year when teams were announced on Oct. 27. She earned first-team accolades in 2015 and 2016 after making the second team in 2014.

Flynn started 20 games this season, and amassed nearly 1,900 minutes in helping the Huskers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013. She scored one goal and had one assist during her final season at Nebraska en route to collecting second-team All-Big Ten status. As a team, NU went 11-6-5 (5-3-3 Big Ten) and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Flynn started all 78 games she played in during her career at Nebraska. She scored 11 goals and tallied seven assists. She was also a member of the 2016 U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team during the summer.

Flynn is a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, a nine-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll choice and a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. She served as the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President in 2015-16, and won a coveted Nebraska HERO Leadership Award in 2016.
