The People's City Mission opened its doors for Thanksgiving for those in need once again.

Volunteers dished up all the holiday favorites to feed hundreds Thursday.

There was also pie for those whose tummies weren't too full for dessert.

Jolinda Holden and her family were some of the guests.

Holden said she’s thankful for this time she gets to spend with them as well as the pressure that's taken off by the helpers who got plates for her little ones.

"A lot of times we don't eat together, so being able to sit down and have a meal together and enjoy this time. I am so blessed for it,” Guest Jolinda Holden said.

Volunteers took orders from the guests and served them at their tables.

The mission served about 500 meals, which was similar to last year.

It said it strives to give everyone the experience of family style meal.

"The neat thing is when you bring who are homeless and you serve them. It really feels like a Thanksgiving meal like with a family and it also gives us a chance that we care about you,” People’s City Mission CEO Pastor Tom Barber said.

The meal is really powered by the help of volunteers like Nebraska Lt. Gov. Mike Foley.

There were about 100 of them this year.

People City’s Mission CEO Pastor Tom Barber said all the slots were filled about a month prior to the event.

It's an experience several of them are grateful to have as well.

"We came because we love people and we love helping people.  I think we've all been in a time in our lives when we needed help. We are just here helping out,” Volunteer Jeremy La Brie said.
