It was an emotional day in court for Richard Randall, Jr.’s family.

They learned the fate of the man who killed the 19-year-old better known as Ricky.

After a plea deal, 22–year–old Brandon Benson was sentenced for second degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony Wednesday.

He shot and killed Randall last November.

Now, Benson got 70 years to life in prison.

"If Brandon Benson hadn't been taken off the streets by son's life being taken. He would've hurt somebody else. That's a fact,” Victim’s Father  Richard Randall, Sr. said.

Benson fired shots into the door of a home near 48th and O street after a failed robbery.

They injured one man and ended Randall’s life.

Benson said he's sorry for his actions, but the judge didn't see it that way.

She said he didn't care and his intentions were clear, which is why she handed him that sentence.

"We felt like he did deserve a little bit more because of the circumstances. It wasn't spontaneous combustion. It was a lot planning and preparation on his part,” Randall’s father said.

Tuesday marked the anniversary of Randall’s death.

The loss has left a void in his loved ones' hearts, but they're thankful for this bit of justice.

"It’s a little bit of closure now that it's over and we know the court was on our side,” Victim’s sister Kayla Randall said.

"We have to do what we have to do live out the rest of our lives the way Ricky would want us to,” Randall’s father said.

Two other men were involved in the case.

Joseph Bratt was sentenced last week and Joshua Lock will be next month.
