LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A new Nebraska policy says state employees using a state purchasing card can't accept rebates, rewards or promotional items unless it's used for agency or department business.
KETV-TV reports that the governor's office and the Department of Administrative Services changed the state's purchasing card rules following a report from the state auditor's office. The office began its investigation following reports that some employees were terminated because they redeemed rebates for personal use.
Agencies use purchasing cards like credit cards. The report found that five Nebraska Game and Parks employees and one Department of Corrections employee redeemed almost $3,400 in rebates that were earned from government purchases on the cards last year.
The report found the employees purchased gas grills, beach chairs and a dollhouse through the rebates.
