Nebraska school bus drivers no longer have to pay an annual permit fee to the state.

Gov. Pete Ricketts signed a bill that eliminates the fee, as part of a larger occupation licensing package.

The Dept. of Motor Vehicles says it issued nearly 5,000 bus permits in 2016.

The bill does not change any requirements for potential bus drivers, it just eliminates the $5 fee to become one.
