Citizenship ceremony held in downtown Lincoln

It was an unforgettable day for 32 people.

During Saturday's citizenship ceremony in downtown Lincoln, you would be hard pressed to find a dry eye in the crowd.

Philipe Oliveira says this moment is ten years in the making.

"It's a moment I've been waiting for a long time, finally it's here. To be able to live in pride now, for a long time I've been looking forward to it. As an American citizen, I have the right to vote."

Ghassan Kheder's journey has been even longer.

in 2012, he got his green card, and then another six years living in Lincoln before he could call himself a citizen.

"I am so proud, I've been waiting for this moment for so long, it feels so good. I am so proud to be here with my family in the united states, especially in Nebraska, Lincoln.

Mayor Chris Beutler was also in attendance for Saturday's ceremony.

He says days like these are what makes America special.

"These are the people who for all our history have built America. The immigrants coming in. We need them and they need us and we can build a greater America from that partnership."

Congratulations to all of 32 people who earned their citizenship on Saturday!
