Six new school resource officers (SROs) will begin their duties in LPS middle schools next week.

The officers will begin their assignments on November 15th, months ahead of the originally projected start date of January, 2019.

LPD says the six officers are elite veteran officers who were selected through an extremely competitive application process.

The officers have completed 40 hours of National SRO training, covering topics such as mentoring and interacting with students and school administrators.

LPD says the officers have also been trained on de-escalation techniques, implicit bias, cultural competency and community-oriented policing.
