Fleet Feet Sports held their first ever fundraiser for Heartland Cancer Foundation Thursday night. The foundation is a Lincoln based company helping fund cancer treatment for families in need.

In Lincoln for 10 years, Heartland Cancer Foundation started a few years ago hosting local fundraisers for these families. Their main event is in March but they say ones held on Thursday help spread their message and raise awareness for their cause.

Athelta, an athletic clothing store and Kendra Scott, a jewelry boutique from Omaha, joined Fleet Feet Sports in the fundraiser. Ten percent of proceeds from the two and a half hour event went to the Cancer Foundation.

Expectations were mild for turnouts but Heidi Moyer with the Heartland Cancer Foundation was pleasantly surprised.

"We were expecting around 25-30 and so far we have had about 100 people show up. Kind of since 5 o'clock. In and out. Sort of an open house style so we are really surprised, really really happy," said Moyer.
