The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office sent out a press release Saturday evening, updating a fatal car crash from Friday night.

The press release indicates that at 7:47 p.m. on December 14th, 2018, Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Hallam Volunteer Fire Department, Cortland Rural Fire & Rescue, and Lincoln Fire & Rescue, responded
to a report of two pedestrians who had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Hwy 77
and West Hallam Road.

According to investigators, the two pedestrians were hit by a pickup while they were helping another person change a flat tire on the shoulder of Highway 77.

One of the pedestrians, 42 year old female Vonnell Briggs of Lincoln, NE, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was identified as 74-year-old-male, Kenneth Lineweber of Beatrice, NE.

Star Care air ambulance responded to the scene and transported the other pedestrian, 61 year old female Karen Meyer of rural Cortland, NE, to the hospital where she is currently listed in critical, but stable condition.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy has been ordered.
