Snow emergency for the City of Lincoln
The Mayor has declared a snow emergency for the City of Lincoln. That means parking is banned on both sides of all emergency snow routes, bus and school routes and other major arterial streets. More than 65 crews continue to plow those major streets and also apply granular salt pre-wet with brine. Crews expect to begin plowing residential streets this evening. Residential parking bans are not in effect at this time, but the City does ask residents to remove their cars from the streets to allow crews to do a more efficient and effective job.
Crews are also plowing in downtown Lincoln, and those headed downtown are encouraged to park in City garages instead of on the street.
The Lincoln Police Department reports 33 accidents since midnight. StarTran buses are running about 20 minutes off schedule.
Drivers should be on alert for slick spots, especially on untreated streets and sidewalks. Slow down, and allow yourself extra travel time and stopping distance. Please drive with caution around City crews and allow them plenty of room to work.
