16-year-old accused in Omaha teen’s death
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for the murder of a girl found in a northwest Omaha creek.
The body of Melanie Koontz was found on May 15. Omaha police say Justin Lenz was arrested Thursday and is being held in the Douglas County Youth Center. Prosecutors say they plan to charge Lenz as an adult for first-degree murder.
Court records show Lenz has had a few brushes with the law. Last October, Lenz was charged with disorderly conduct and third degree assault. Earlier this year, he was charged for possession of K-2 or marijuana.
Koontz was a student at Benson High School. Police have not released a motive nor said how Koontz was killed.
