16-year-old Wahoo girl dies in crash

A rural Wahoo teenager has been killed in a collision at an intersection two miles west of Wahoo in eastern Nebraska. The Saunders County Sheriff's Office says 16-year-old Bethany Kavan was southbound on County Road 20 Wednesday morning around 10 o'clock when her car was struck on the driver's side by a westbound pickup.

The sheriff's office says Kavan was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say she was not wearing a seat belt. The pickup driver, 19-year-old Alyssa Stanek, of Ceresco, was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office says Stanek was wearing a seat belt. The crash cause is being investigated.
