2004 Legislative Session Begins
State Senators will kick-off the 2004 Legislative Session Jan. 7th. Governor Mike Johanns will propose to spend 25 million dollars over a two year period on three key programs, including mental health reform, improving child welfare and implementing a new water resource plan. He's also proposing to hire 130 more case workers to deal with child abuse and neglect. With the state facing a 211-million-dollar budget shortfall.. The governor says more cuts may be needed.
