2011-2012 City Budget Announced

It looks like it will be a long couple of weeks for city officials, deciphering and debating over the mayor's proposed budget.

The 2011–2012 budget was released today and it does include tax increases.

The Mayor's budget is a 144 million dollar tax funded one.  The city faces a budget gap of about 9.3 million dollars and Beutler proposes covering half of that with the first city tax increase since 1994.

It would be a 2.8 cent increase on property taxes, that's about $3.49 per month on a $150,000 home.

Beutler says his proposal will allow the city to continue to fund neighborhood libraries, pools and city parks.

He'll present his budget to the city council tomorrow at 1pm.  For more information about the city budget you can visit the city's website at lincoln.ne.gov
