600+ kids benefit from backpack giveaway
Hundreds of Lincoln kids got a huge boost Tuesday in getting ready for school.
The Salvation Army opened its doors once again this year, giving away backpacks and school supplies. More than 600 students benefited.
The items were donated by businesses and people who wanted to help out..
The families were very thankful. James Murry is a parent and says, “It's been great. The economy is bad so people don't have the money to buy the kids what they want. This is a big help for everybody.”
Karen Cullinan with the Salvation Army says, “today is a good day. Making an impact in people's lives, seeing the kids faces as they pick out a backpack. I've been smiling all day and feeling good about it.”
Volunteers were also on hand to give free haircuts.
School here in Lincoln starts Wednesday, August 18th.
