70 Nebraska Soldiers prepare to head overseas

About 70 members of the Nebraska Army National Guard assigned to the CH047 Chinook Helicopter were mobilized today in Grand Island in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Soldiers are primarily members of Company B, 2-135th General Support Aviation Battalion, although Soldiers from other units within the battalion will also deploying on the year-long mission. Once overseas, the unit will be responsible for a wide array of medium-lift missions including the aerial movement of troops, supplies and equipment.

Among those expected to attend Friday's send-off ceremony of Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, U.S. Senator Mike Johanns, U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith and Brig. Gen. Michael Navrkal, Nebraska Army National Guard assistant adjutant general, Army. Other state and local officials will also be in attendance.
