A Deal Has Been Reached To Keep Lincoln’s Goodyear Plant Open For At Least Five More Years
A deal has been reached to keep Lincoln's Goodyear plant open for atleast five more years. That's the word from the United Steelworkers local union president. It's now scheduled to stay open until July of 2009. The union agreed to help save the company money, in exchange for the 2009 guarantee. The union president says a master bargaining agreement covering 14 North American plants, could over-rule the guarantee, but he's confident union members at other plants would support Lincoln. There are about 823 union members at the Lincoln plant… At least 450 union jobs will be kept there until the labor contract expires in 2006. However, union officials say there's no guaranteed staffing number beyond that date.
