A Grand Island Grand Jury Looks Into Suicide

A grand jury in Hall County has determined no criminal conduct caused or contributed to the death of man who committed suicide with a chainsaw. It all began with a stand-off with Grand Island police officers back in December. 40-year-old Paul Smidt junior refused to allow them in his business to serve a federal arrest warrant. He later died after lowering himself over a running chainsaw. The grand jury is recommending the grand island police department hire atleast four professional negotiators.. With one being bi-lingual. The jury also says communication between the agencies involved in those situations needs to be improved.
