Twins Haley and Hannah Buchenau were nine years old when their dad, Bob Buchenau died after a two-year battle with cancer. He and his wife Sandy were high school sweethearts.

"And I helped take care of him when he was sick and just to be without him is really hard," Sandy said.

The twins are 16 now, but in some ways the pain is still fresh, especially at this time of year.

"People always say grief gets easier throughout the years, but no. It’s still the same," Hannah said.

Sandy works two jobs to support the family, and says the last year has been especially hard.

"Financially and emotionally," Sandy said. "Since about April everything that could go wrong has. It’s just kind of snowballed for me."

Union Bank helped make this Christmas a magical one for the family. They brought the girls and Sandy gifts: warm winter clothing, gift cards to fancy restaurants, and some much needed furniture.

"Mom already said ‘It’s not going to be a big Christmas this year because you know I’m struggling,’" Haley said."…and then we get all of this and I think it’s pretty cool."
