Westbound I-80 near mile marker 401 re-opened just before 1 p.m. Sunday. Fire officials say a semi-truck jack-knifed near mile marker 398 just after 10 a.m., causing other vehicles to lose control, including a second semi.

The accident led State Patrol to shut down all westbound lanes from mile marker 401 around 10:30 a.m.

Both trucks were leaking diesel fuel.

Fire officials say the accident caused several others in the same stretch of interstate.

“It kind of sounds like it became an ice rink and it was a domino effect,” Fire Capt. Dan Ripley said. “Any time there's icy, snow conditions, just take your time, slow down.”

Fire officials say only two people were injured, both were non-life-threatening. One person was transported to the hospital.
