Air National Guard Training Drill
Some of the members of the Nebraska Air National Guard had their skills put to the test Saturday. It was the annual “Ability to Survive and Operate” exercise for members of the 155-th Air Refueling Wing in Lincoln. The citizen soldiers only knew that an attack was on the way, but not who was attacking or what would be the nature of the attack. Soon, pretend chemical weapons began to explode on the base. Guard members had to suit up in their protective gear to help defend the base. Master Sergeant Rick Val, Air Guardsman says, “It's crucial that we maintain a sense of urgency in this kind of thing…and in this world.” The Air National Guard unit was evaluated during the exercise, to determine what additional training may be needed. Nearly 600 guard members participated in the exercise.
