Amber Alert System Goes Into Place
A system that has saved the lives of kidnapped children in places like Texas and California was introduced here in Nebraska. It's called the Amber Alert system and it's in operation as we speak. 75 percent of children kidnapped by strangers are murdered with in three hours of abduction. The amber program is a voluntary and cooperative effort between law enforcement and broadcasters.
To activate the Amber Alert the child should be 15 or younger, have a proven mental or physical disability, authorities must believe the child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death and it's not intended for runaways or child custody situations.
The good news is the out of pocket costs are minimal and no extra staff will be added to any local law enforcement agencies.
