An Attempted Robbery Creates Some Tense Moments In The Capital City
Lincoln police swarmed a shopping center near 70th Van Dorn Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses say a man may have been attempting to rob a bank. The suspect then approached a woman.. He later let her go and ran into a nearby pharmacy. Witnesses tell Channel 8 Eyewitness News the suspect may have had a reason for targeting the woman who was wearing a Tier One Bank name badge. Witnesses also tell us the man was seen in the parking lot waiting for 45 minutes. But after the woman got away his wait would produce nothing. Police later found him near 70th and Highway 2. A church was evacuated and nearby roads were also closed. Police saw something in his back seat that appeared to be a bomb, however it turned out not to be. Lincoln police tell Channel 8 Eyewitness News that the victim was a bank employee and they did find a gun in the suspect's car. The man, who's name has not been released, is in custody.
