Anti-Rape Demonstration

By Ashley Harding

Dozens of Lincoln residents are hitting the pavement to end sexual violence and put a stop to victim blame and shame.

Organizers of the walk say they were inspired to act after hearing about similar movements in other countries. Their goal is to put a stop to the common notion that what a woman is wearing, makes her at fault if she is sexually assaulted.

To do that, organizers say we need to start talking and acting. Clare LaFrance says, “I'm hoping that what people do is, it spurs, you know, people talking with one another and that's the way to make culture change…is to draw people's attention. To these ideas that we have in our culture.”

Organizers say they're hoping to make this march a yearly event here in Lincoln.
