Ashland/Platte River Basin

This One Tank Trip takes us to the Platte River, where many fun family activities are located.    The first stop was to the Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari, located off of Exit 426 on 1-80.    Here you can take a spin off the beaten path and see native North American animals right outside your car, truck or RV window.  The Wildlife Safari is home to bison, elk, cranes, pronghorn antelope and other native animals in the scenic Platte River Valley.

Our next stop, the Strategic Air & Space Museum, is just down the road on the other side of I-80.    The museum is regarded as the nation's foremost facility of its kind, with over 300,000 square feet, that feature a glass atrium, two aircraft display hangars, a traveling exhibit area, a children's interactive gallery, a 200-seat theater, and an aircraft restoration gallery.  The glass atrium is a breathtaking structure that encases the awesome Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.

Our final stop, Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, is right next door to the museum.  Thus ultra modern park offers a spectacular array of lodging, group meeting facilities, and activities.  Mahoney has a myriad off recreational activites, including a Family Aquatic Center complete with a zero-depth swimming and wave pool and two 200 foot curling water slides.
