Authorities still investigating S. Omaha police shooting

Authorities are still investigating the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man by an off-duty, uniformed Omaha police officer. Police say Abel Barrera-Siguenza was pronounced dead early Monday morning outside the Guaca Maya Restaurant in south Omaha.

Two off-duty officers were in the restaurant parking lot as a crowd of about 200 people was leaving shortly after 1 a.m. A police news release says the officers saw a car strike several other vehicles and that a man with a gun in his hand was chasing it.

The release says the man “appeared to be firing at the vehicle.'' The release says one of the officers yelled at the man to stop, then fired at the man. Authorities have not identified which of the officers fired the fatal shot at Barrera-Siguenza.
