In light of recent attacks on police officers across the country our media partner Broadcast House in Lincoln decided to do something special for our men and women who protect us each and every day. They hosted a Back the Badge appreciation lunch on Friday.

Captain Don Scheinost with the Lincoln police department says the outpouring of support has been  overwhelming.

"It really touches everybody that’s a law enforcement officer," Scheinost said.

Cowboy Chicken provided the delicious meal and community members got to interact with our local heroes, sign a banner, and many bought t-shirts that read "Back the Blue."

Law enforcement officials say over the last few weeks they’ve received cards, emails, and sweet treats from people, but a simple thank you is also appreciated.

"Letting them know we appreciate their support and that we can rely on them and they can rely on us. This is a team effort," Scheinost said.

Sheriff Terry Wagner says the reason they have a good relationship in Lincoln and Lancaster county is because of communication. He says if you’re unhappy all you have to do is call, and they’ll be happy to work with you.

"We can talk through that, and I hope we’re all accessible enough where people feel they can do that," Wagner said.

Many people at the event said the relationship between law enforcement and the Lincoln community is good, and the key is to keep those lines of communication open.
