Bar Owners Begin Petition of Smoking Ban
A group of Lincoln bar owners, who are upset over the recently passed public smoking ban, want to put the issue in front of voters. Friday morning, they handed in the paperwork that will allow them to collect signatures. They'll need to collect more than 2100 signatures from Lincoln voters by Tuesday morning. If they do, the smoking ban will be suspended immediately.
If the group gets enough signatures, the City Council will then have three choices; They can repeal the ban, hold a special election where voters would vote only on this issue, or put the issue on the next general city election, which will take place next May.
