Beatrice decides pit-bull issue
On a 5-4 vote, the Beatrice City Council decided against making specific mention of pit bulls on its revised animal ordinance.
Mayor Dennis Schuster broke a 4-4 tie on Monday to remove the pit bull reference. Then the council voted 6-2 to adopt its new ordinance, which included a section on dangerous animals. Schuster says the council was making a law to regulate people, not animals.
The new ordinance defines a dangerous animal as one that has, among other criteria, killed or severely injured a human being or killed a domestic animal without provocation.
