Binge Drinking Problems

High risk drinking is an issue at many of the colleges and universities in Nebraska.

19 Nebraska colleges met in Lincoln today to talk about the problem with experts and learn why binge drinking is getting worse in many regions of the country. College officials learned that increases in the density of college campuses and culture changes have likely contributed. But, is there a serious problem here? Ian Newman, Psychology professor at UNL say “no, there's not a serious problem. We have addressed a great many of these issues. But, we have occasionally serious issues and serious problems.”

Surveys taken between 1997 and 2007 found the percent of students who were binge drinking to have actually decreased at UNL by about 25% university officials say binge drinking remains relatively low.
