Bishop Neumann wins Class C1 Basketball Title

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)  Noah Vedral scored 19 points to lead four Bishop Neumann players in double figures, and the Cavaliers won their second boys state championship in three years with a 63-54 victory over Adams Central in the Class C1 final Saturday.

Jaxon Simons added 18 points, Benjamin Simons had 12 and Reid Jurgensmeier added 10 for the Cavaliers (26-2). Jaxon Simons and Vedral made three 3-pointers apiece, and the Cavaliers made 13 of 17 free throws in the second half.

David Bohlen and Lucas Goldenstein scored 15 points each and Cale Pleak had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Patriots (24-5), who were 0-7 all-time in the state tournament before winning their first two games in Lincoln to reach the final.

Vederal’s 3-pointer gave Neumann a 48-46 lead late in the third quarter and started a 9-0 spurt. Kyler Wormstadt’s 3-pointer with 57 seconds got Adams Central within four points, but Neumann made 5 of 6 free throws to secure the win.
