Boys State Basketball Tournament kicks off

Thursday marked the first round of the boys high school state basketball tournament, and to say the least, fans in the Pinnacle Bank Arena were loud and proud.

Omaha Benson and Lincoln Northeast had the first game of the night.

Benson fans were confident they'd get a win.

“It's a big ball of excitement and we're ready to win,”  Courtney Boose said. “We're ready to take it all the way!”

Lincoln Northeast fans were excited their team made it to state tournament.

“It's just crazy down here,” Kayle Weakley said. “We're all really happy to be here.”

Fans piled into the arena for second game of the night: Omaha Westside and Lincoln Southeast.

Makada Beamon of LSE had a very special reason for being in the stands: her brother, now a senior, has been on the team all four years.

“Hoping he does well, and makes good plays and stuff,” Beamon said.

Seniors at Westside had a big reason to celebrate their team making it to Lincoln, with the dream of getting a state title.

“It's really special for our senior year to be the first time in a while that they've made it here,” Josh Cain said. “So I think that's a great thing to have senior year.”
