UPDATE: The Village of DeWitt is now open. Residents can go back in. A road leading there, Highway 103, is also back open.

The Village of DeWitt is experiencing flooding problems with the recent heavy rains Wednesday night as between 8 and 11 inches fell on the Turkey Creek and Big Blue River basins in Saline County.

A shelter for DeWitt residents has been opened at Tri County High School, 72520 Highway 103, DeWitt, by DeWitt Fire & Rescue, Saline County Sheriff’s Department, Saline County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross.

Fire Chief Shawn Weise and Sheriff Alan Moore are urging DeWitt residents who are ambulatory to walk to the village office and they will be picked up by Nebraska National Guard personnel. Residents who cannot make it can be transported via shuttle by calling 402-683-4035, Extension 1.
