Budget-Cutting Session Begins

It's budget cutting time again. Lawmakers from across the state are back in Lincoln for another special session. It officially kicked off Tuesday with Governor Mike Johann's telling the legislature what he thinks will help bring the state out of the budget crisis. Before they could get down to budget cutting they had important business to take care of. Senator Curt Bromm of Wahoo was nominated as Speaker. The legislature was left without a Speaker when Doug Kristensen of Minden resigned. After Speaker Bromm was sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court the Governor spoke to the floor. Medicaid and the University of Nebraska would take the biggest cuts in his proposed plan. A representative of those effected by medicaid says they are pleased to hear the Governor address the issue publicly.
