Burton Signs With Childress

NASCAR driver Jeff Burton has agreed to a multiyear deal to drive for Richard Childress racing, beginning next week at Michigan International Speedway.

The 37-year-old Burton had been with Roush Racing since 1996.

He becomes the third driver this season in the number-30 Chevrolet, taking over for Dave Blaney.

Burton was the 1994 rookie of the year in NASCAR's top series.

He has 17 career victories and finished in the top-10 in the point standings from 1997 through 2001. But he hasn't won a race since 2001.
