A young boy is dead following a car accident at 148th and Old Cheney.
8-year-old Caleb MathIson and his mother Tanya were in their Dodge Neon when they were t-boned at that intersection by an SUV, resulting in the little boy's death.
The Lancaster Sherriff reports around 4:30 p.m. Monday 28-year- old Tanya Mathison failed to stop at a stop sign on Old Cheney resulting in the crash.
The 8-year-old was sitting in the front seat at the time, and altough wearing his seatbelt, did not survive.
“Caleb sustained previous critical injuries at that time. He was life flighted by Omaha's Lifenet helicopter to Omaha Creighton University hospital where he died,” Chief Deputy Bill Jarrett said.
Tanya Mathison was taken to BryanLGH West, where she is expected to be ok.
The driver of the trail-blazer, 20-year old Travis Robeson of Summerfield Kansas– sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
The mother has been cited for failing to yield the right away.
But we're told sometimes with accidents like this, the citation will be upped later, if the on-going investigation deems necessary.
