Cause Released Of Apartment Fire

Police say they now know what caused a Lincoln apartment fire on Sunday night, and who did it.

According to police, the fire was intentionally started inside the apartment by the woman who lives there.

Police say the 52-year old woman, who's apartment was on fire, was treated medically and mentally at St. Elizabeth's.

But they say she's now in jail after being arrested for arson.

Yvonne Casy describes her neighbor as she was being transported to the hospital after her apartment near 70th and O street started on fire.

When fire and rescue crews arrived at the scene around 8 o'clock.

They found smoke and flames coming from the bedroom.

According to police and investigators, they believe that woman was the person responsible for causing the fire in her own apartment.

It appears she lit some newspapers on her bed of her bedroom which ultimately caused 50 thousand dollars in damage to the building.

The woman's apartment window remains broken and the apartment itself is empty.

Even though everyone in the complex got out of the building safely and the fire was contained to just her apartment, neighbors who live nearby say they are shocked to find out she's the one who started the flames, knowing there were others in harms way.

Right now the apartment door has a sign warning that the apartment is unsafe to enter.

We spoke to one neighbor who says the woman told her she just recently lost her job and was having a hard time finding a new one.

Police confirmed alcohol was involved.
