City Council Members Debate Busy Downtown Intersection
The debate centers around the 10th and “O” intersection. Some feel rush hour traffic is too backed up, and something needs to be done. However, the City Council and City Engineers can't ignore the history of the area.
The intersection once had two left hand turn lanes coming northbound off of tenth street onto “O” street. At that time it was considered one of the most dangerous intersections in the city. In 1998 it was changed back to a single turn lane. But now, many residents say something needs to be done about congestion.
City Engineers also say that there's less pedestrian traffic in this area because Aging Services has moved out of the old Federal Building. So, senior citizens aren't walking back and forth.
