Collins Given Additional Suspension
Lincoln–Husker football fans will have to get used to not seeing Thunder Collins in the Big Red backfield. On Wednesday, NU head coach Frank Solich announced that in addition to being suspended for last Saturday's 31-16 win over Troy State, Collins will also be suspended for the Huskers next three contests (Utah State, Penn State, McNeese State).
While Solich would not elaborate on the specifics of the matter he did say that the senior I-back became ineligible according to NCAA guidelines when he failed to comply with NCAA regulations. The University of Nebraska will self-report the violations and self-imposed suspension to the NCAA. “We believe this four-game suspension will bring conclusion to the NCAA issues we've been dealing with,” said coach Solich.
When asked if he was disappointed in what Thunder has done Solich said, “I'm always disappointed when rules aren't followed and of course any time it involves a suspension it's always tough on the player, it's always tough on the program and the coaches. But certainly we need to uphold what is right, our players need to and they understand that and they understand that there are consequences when that's not the situation.”
