LINCOLN–Two Lincoln Police officers and one man, riding in the back of their police cruiser, were hospitalized, after colliding with a mini-van in an intersection.

It happened just before 5:30 p.m., on Monday, at the intersection of 11th and Van Dorn.

The Lincoln Police Department tells us the police cruiser was heading westbound on Van Dorn and was in the intersection, when the driver of the blue mini-van, who was southbound on 11th street, failed to come to a full stop at the intersection’s stop sign.

The mini-van hit the right side of the cruiser, setting off three different airbags inside of it.

The jaws of life had to be used to extricate the police officers, as well as the man they were transporting in the back of the cruiser.  They were taken by ambulance to the hospital.

LPD says the injuries were non-life threatening.

The driver of the mini-van refused medical attention.

The intersection was opened back up around 6:30 p.m.
