Commission Votes on Seward Wal-Mart Super Center
The question of super-sizing the Wal-Mart in Seward to include a full-service grocery-store was before the Seward Planning Commission Monday night. It was wall to wall with people who had opinions about the Wal-Mart corporate giant expanding in the community of about 5700, just west of Lincoln. Wal-Mart officials say the new Super Center would be twice the size of Seward's current Wal-Mart. While many say they would welcome lower-prices, some local merchants are afraid they'll be run out of business. New super centers are also being proposed for several other Nebraska communities, including York, Hastings and Columbus. The Seward Planning Commission voted Monday night in favor of the new Wal-Mart Super Center. Their recommendation will now go to the community's city council, which will make the final decision.
