Confusing Calls On Absentee Ballots

Phone calls made to absentee voters caused some concern around the Capital City. More than a thousand people received a telephone call Monday night. The call said the if voter hadn't turned in his or her absentee ballot yet, a volunteer could be sent to pick up and turn in the ballot. This confused some callers as to if they turned in their ballots properly.

The calls came from the Nebraska Democratic Party. They claim they were just trying to help people avoid the cost of mailing in the ballots. Of the thousand calls made, only 9 people asked to have their ballots picked up. Secretary of State John Gale says the party broke no laws, but asked that the calls be stopped because of the confusion they were causing.
