Congressional candidates discuss their priorities

The General Election is just two weeks away, and many voters wants to know what candidates are most focused on.

Channel 8 Eyewitness News spoke with the incumbent from Nebraska’s 3rd Congressional District, Republican Adrian Smith on his priorities.

“Our national debt is approaching 18 trillion dollars, and we continue to spend more than we can afford. Economic growth remains stalled, and too many Americans are out of work. New regulations threaten almost every sector of our economy and aspect of our lives with arbitrary rules,” Smith says.

While he’s focused on trimming national debt and less regulation for small businesses, Smith’s opponent, Democrat Mark Sullivan says he wants to support the district’s seniors.

“My biggest priorities are preserving Social Security, Medicare, the postal service, and family farms. Those are vital, vital links to the 3rd District of Nebraska, and our population in the 3rd District is aging, and we need those support factors in there,” Sullivan says.

The 3rd District includes Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings, North Platte, and Scottsbluff.

Voters will have a chance to weigh in Nov. 4th.
